Securing Your Veterans’ Benefits in La Canada, CA

Veterans’ Pension and Aid & Attendance Benefit

The Veteran Administration strives to help Elderly and Senior Veterans who may be struggling financially by providing two forms of monetary benefits – basic Veterans’ Pension and the Aid and Attendance Benefit. Applicants must meet certain requirements set forth by the VA, including having income that does not exceed the Maximum Annual Pension Rate set by Congress. The difference between the MAPR and your countable income equals the amount of pension that you may qualify for. As the cost of daily living rises for Elderly individuals because of medical or legal expenses, VA Benefits can be very beneficial for those veterans who need it most.

Veterans’ Pension and Aid & Attendance Requirements

  • Veteran must have provided at least 90 days of active duty with one day during a wartime period – World War I, World War II, Vietnam War, Korean War, Gulf War
  • Veteran or spouse must be at least 65 years old OR receive Supplemental Security Income or Social Security Disability Insurance OR be totally and permanently disabled.
  • Veteran or spouse must have countable income that does not exceed the Maximum Annual Pension Rate set by Congress. Applicants may deduct unreimbursed medical expenses that were paid for in the same year from countable income. This may be able to help more Elderly veterans qualify or help others acquire more financial aid.
  • Aid & Attendance benefit applicants must prove to the VA that they require the in-home care assistance of another individual for activities of daily living such as mobility assistance, personal hygiene management, dressing, bathing, and feeding. The VA recommends submitting a physician’s report that details any medical conditions or health issues that prevents you from living at home without a caregiver.

At A-1 Domestic, we understand how confusing it may be to understand every aspect of what the VA offers to Elderly Veterans. Our case managers can provide consulting and guidance with any questions or assistance you may need. Whether it’s fully understanding VA Benefits, determining income eligibility, acquiring a physician’s report with relevant information for the A&A benefit, or applying online, one of our case managers can help you.
